UP: Four killed in family dispute over land sale money in Bahraich

Bahraich, March 2 (UNI) A shocking incident of family violence was reported from Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district, where a young man allegedly killed four members of his family with an axe following a dispute over money from the sale of land and jewelry, police said on Monday.

The incident occurred in Basantpur Rudal (Ramgaon) village under the Rupaidiha police station area.

According to police, Gurudev, son of Badlu Verma, lodged a complaint stating that around midnight on March 1–2, he heard loud noises and came out of his room to find his younger brother Nirankar arguing with their father over money from the sale of ancestral land and ornaments.

In a fit of rage, Nirankar allegedly attacked his father, Badlu Ram (60), mother Sanju Devi (56), sister Parvati (around 42), and grandmother Sitala (80) with an axe. All four died on the spot due to severe injuries.

When Gurudev tried to intervene, he was also attacked and sustained serious head injuries. Gurudev’s son Azad was present at the scene and raised an alarm, drawing villagers to the spot.

During the commotion, the accused reportedly injured himself by hitting his head with a brick.

Upon receiving information, Station House Officer Ramesh Singh Rawat reached the scene with police personnel and informed senior officials.

Superintendent of Police Bahraich, Ramnayan Singh, along with other officers and a forensic team, inspected the site. The bodies were sent to the district hospital in Bahraich for post-mortem examination.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Durga Prasad Tiwari stated that preliminary investigation suggests the crime was the result of a dispute over land sale money and sudden anger. A case has been registered at Rupaidiha police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

The accused Nirankar has been taken into custody and admitted to the district hospital before being referred to Lucknow for further treatment. Gurudev is undergoing treatment at a primary health centre in Charda.

Police said a detailed investigation and evidence collection are underway.
