Shia community in city mourns Khamenei

  • Condolence meeting held at Karond mosque after Zuhr prayers

Bhopal: The reported death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, in US and Israeli attacks has triggered grief among sections of the Shia community in the city. On Sunday, a large number of people gathered at a Shia mosque in Karond, to offer condolences after the Zuhr prayers.

Addressing the gathering, Imam Baqer Hussain said that the late leader was globally recognised for raising his voice against oppression and standing firmly with the oppressed. He stated that Khamenei consistently opposed tyranny and upheld the principles of the Islamic Revolution throughout his life.

Referring to the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, he remarked that history has shown no ideology or movement can be extinguished by the death of an individual. “The path of revolution will continue, and those who carry it forward will always emerge,” he said, adding that martyrdom strengthens rather than weakens an ideology.

Call for unity and patience

Imam Baqer Hussain said the Muslim Ummah feels “orphaned” by the loss, but urged people to remain united and patient during difficult times. He added that enemies often strike from behind rather than confronting openly.

During the gathering, slogans such as “Down with Israel,” “Down with America,” “Long Live Khamenei,” “Allahu Akbar,” and “Ya Hussain” were raised by attendees.

Juma Imam Syed Azhar Hussain Rizvi of Masjid Mohammadi also addressed the congregation. He described Khamenei as a fearless leader who consistently stood against oppression, irrespective of sect or community. Supporting the oppressed, he said, is a mark of humanity and righteousness, while backing injustice is condemned in the eyes of God.

The meeting concluded with prayers and tributes to the departed leader.
