Kolkata, Feb 28 (UNI) As there is an expectation of huge turnout at Eden Gardens for the ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup 2026 match between India and West Indies, the metro authorities have announced for special Metro services in Kolkata to facilitate the smooth dispersal of spectators after the game.
The high-profile encounter considered virtually the quarters finals between the India and West Indies teams is scheduled to be held on March 1, 2026, at the iconic Eden Gardens in Esplanade – the central district of the city.
The match is likely to start at 7 pm in the evening and likely to end by 10.30 pm at night.
To ensure hassle-free travel for cricket fans once the match concludes, Metro authorities have planned special late-night services on key routes.
According to officials, two special Metro trains will operate on the Blue Line after the match ends. The Blue Line stretches from Shahid Khudiram in extreme South to Dakhineshwar in North 24 parganas.
According to metro authorities, one service will run on the Esplanade–Dakshineswar corridor, while the other will operate on the Esplanade–Sahid Khudiram route.
Both special services will depart from Esplanade at 11:15 pm. The trains will halt at all stations along their respective routes, allowing passengers to disembark at their preferred destinations.
For these special late-night services, ticket booking facilities will be available exclusively at Esplanade Metro station.
Commuters intending to avail of the services are advised to plan accordingly and purchase tickets in advance to avoid last-minute inconvenience.
The special arrangement has been made considering public demand and passenger safety following the conclusion of a major international sporting event.
Officials said the initiative is part of Metro Railways ongoing efforts to provide reliable transport support during large-scale events in the city.
