Union Min Piyush Goyal hits out at ‘corrupt’ DMK ahead of PM’s Madurai address

New Delhi, Feb 28 (UNI) The India Post is currently undergoing transformation to a technologically-advanced logistics organisation with focus on providing new products and services to people, and at the same time, working to increase its revenue.

Under the leadership of Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, the India Post plans to introduce 24 Speed Post Parcel, with next-day delivery between tier 1 and metros, for which preparations are being made with pilot locations including Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Kolkata and Bengaluru.

The department is also working on operational improvement initiatives in the parcel vertical, such as rationalisation of the network to align with e- commerce hotspots, pilots for telematics, and RFID underway to modernise the operations.

According to the Minister, India Post, moving forward with present times and requirements, is redesigning packaging collaterals to meet current needs, and is also revamping the postman’s delivery bag, making it more sturdy, so that it can better protect the material carried in it.

The department is also strengthening its marketing and technical orientation, along with the product repositioning, as the Minister had shared during his recent interaction with media persons.

Adoption of best practices is something key to the transformation, and for this, the department officials visited the global leaders like La Poste (France) for postal services, Royal Mail (United Kingdom) for observing their pick up and drop model and Japan Post for their automatic sorting centres, self-service, and standardised branding of the boxes.

The Minister said the aim is to develop all the business lines of the India Post, turning them profitable by expanding operations and curbing costs.

The postal department is also focusing on citizen-centric services, with plans to partner with the market leaders.

To ensure deliveries in remote areas that are very difficult to reach, especially mountain areas, and places which are difficult to visit, the department can explore the option of drone delivery at such places.

Scindia also emphasised the importance of postal workers, especially those in the rural areas, in achieving this goal of transformation of the department.
