New Delhi, Feb 27 (UNI) Pakistan has reportedly launched Operation Ghazab lil-Haq against the Afghan Taliban after “unprovoked firing” from across the border, with State broadcaster PTV News reporting that the armed forces of Pakistan have carried out air strikes and targeted Afghan Taliban’s important military installations in Kabul, Kandahar and Paktia.
In those strikes, two brigade headquarters have been destroyed in Kabul while one corp headquarter and one brigade headquarter have been destroyed in Kandahar, the state broadcaster has reported.
“The Pakistan armed forces are fully prepared for any aggression and possess the capability to deliver a befitting response,” the broadcaster quoted security sources as saying.
Pakistan bombed Afghanistan’s Kabul and Kandahar on Friday, hours after Afghan forces attacked Pakistani border troops in what the Taliban government said was retaliation for deadly airstrikes earlier this week.
Pakistan has claimed its forces have killed 133 Afghan fighters, while Kabul claimed 55 Pakistani troops have died in its offensive.
Afghan officials have said many civilians have been wounded near the Torkham border crossing, at a camp for people returning from Pakistan.
Faisal Karim Kundi, the governor of the attacked Pakistani border province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, told Sputnik that Islamabad will respond decisively to Afghanistan and ensure its own security.
“We are closely monitoring developments and studying the nature of Pakistan’s response, which is prepared for all possible scenarios. There must be no repeat of previous crises, when the international community demanded restraint from Pakistan after escalation. Pakistan’s sovereignty is a red line. Any attack on Pakistan’s security will get a decisive response that will ensure the country’s security and dignity,” the governor said.
