New Delhi, Feb 26 (UNI) The Indian stock market ended nearly flat today, with BSE Sensex ending 27 points, or 0.03 per cent, lower at 82,248.61 while the NSE Nifty 50 edging up by 14 points, or 0.06 pc, to settle at 25,496.55, amid profit booking in select heavyweights as well as mixed global cues.
The BSE 150 MidCap Index clocked a decent gain of 0.55 pc, while the BSE 250 SmallCap Index rose by 0.07 pc.
The overall market capitalisation of BSE-listed firms increased to Rs 468 lakh crore from Rs 467 lakh crore in the previous session.
On Nifty, the top gainers were Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles up by 2.54 pc, followed by Eicher Motors (by 2.27 pc) and Bharat Electronics ( 2.22 pc). On the losing end were Trent (down by 1.68 pc), Coal India (1.16 pc) and Eternal (1.48 pc).
Among the sectors, most of the indices ended higher. Pharma, Healthcare, PSU Bank, and Auto indices rose by almost 1 pc each. Nifty Bank rose by 0.24 pc.
Further on the losing end were Nifty Media down by 0.68 pc, FMCG down by 0.16 pc and Financial Services down by 0.11 pc.
The advance-decline ratio remained in favour of advancers as nearly 2,200 stocks advanced while more than 2,000 declined on the BSE.
Around 109 stocks hit their 52-week highs while 258 stocks hit their 52-week lows in intraday trade on the BSE.
Those on the highs were Bajaj Auto, TVS Motor Company, Bank of Baroda, Canara Bank, Shriram Finance, Cummins India, Eicher Motors, Federal Bank, ONGC, Indian Oil Corporation and Lupin.
On the lows were Wipro, IRCTC, IRFC, Reliance Power, Syngene International, Swan Corp, Alkyl Amines Chemicals, AWL Agri Business, and Cyient.
Shares of Indian Railway Finance Corporation (IRFC) fell by over 4 pc to hit a fresh 52-week low.
