New Delhi, Feb 25 (UNI) After delivering critically acclaimed and commercially successful films such as ‘Queen’, ‘Super 30’, and ‘Shaitan’, filmmaker Vikas Bahl is preparing to explore an entirely new genre. Variety India has exclusively reported that Bahl is set to helm a full-fledged musical romance drama starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Alizeh in the lead roles.
The yet-untitled project is said to draw inspiration from the rise of the Punjabi underground movement in the UK. For an entire generation, UK Punjabi music was more than just a genre, it was rebellion set to rhythm. Blending traditional Punjabi folk sounds with Western influences, the movement gave birth to a dynamic cross-cultural identity.
Set in the 1990s, the film will capture a defining era when the post-immigrant generation, rooted in both the UK and Punjab, began infusing their own style into the music scene. The result was an electrifying sound that transcended age groups and packed dance floors across communities, according to Variety India.
Siddhant will essay the role of a drummer, while Alizeh will portray a singer. Against this vibrant cultural backdrop, Bahl has crafted a love story that explores romance, ambition and identity during what is widely considered the golden era of UK Punjabi music.
The director has completed the script and is expected to begin pre-production soon, with filming slated to commence in the second half of 2026. The film is being produced by Reliance Entertainment.
The project marks Siddhant’s second collaboration with Bahl following their upcoming romantic comedy, ‘Dil Ka Darwaza Khol Na Darling’, which is expected to release in the third quarter of this year.
Siddhant, whose latest film ‘Do Deewane Seher Mein’ hit theatres last Friday, is also set to begin work on a biopic of legendary filmmaker V. Shantaram before starting Bahl’s musical.
Alizeh, meanwhile, made a strong acting debut with Farrey (2023), the Hindi remake of the 2017 Thai blockbuster ‘Bad Genius’. Bahl’s musical will mark her second film outing.
