New Delhi, Feb 25 (UNI) Delhi CM Rekha Gupta on Wednesday strongly condemned the alleged racial harassment of women from the Northeast in the national capital and assured strict action against the accused.
In a video message, the Chief Minister said she strongly denounces the incident involving “our sisters from the Northeast” and stands firmly with them. She said Delhi belongs to everyone and the dignity, respect and safety of every citizen is the top priority of her government.
Gupta said she would personally meet the affected women. She added that the police are taking full responsibility and legal action is underway. The government will ensure the strictest possible action against those found guilty.
“Harassing, discriminating against or insulting any daughter will not be tolerated at any cost. We are all one, and the safety of every daughter is our highest responsibility,” she said.
Meanwhile, union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia also expressed concern over the incident in a post on X.
He said he was deeply disturbed by the racial harassment faced by three young women from Arunachal Pradesh in the Malviya Nagar area of South Delhi.
Scindia said a minor residential issue escalating into abuse and intimidation rooted in prejudice is shameful. He informed that he spoke to Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu and also took up the matter with the Commissioner of Delhi Police.
According to him, an FIR has been registered and he has been assured that the accused will be arrested soon. He said any injustice against people from the Northeast will not be tolerated and their safety and dignity remain paramount.
