Malabar Cancer Centre’s AI-initiative redefines cancer care in India

Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 25 (UNI) Malabar Cancer Centre (MCC) has earned national recognition for its pioneering use of artificial intelligence in cancer treatment, securing a place among India’s top ten institutions at the India AI Summit 2026.

The achievement comes under the India AI National Cancer Grid (NCG) – Kochi Centre for Digital Oncology (KCDO) Catch Grant 2026, which highlights transformative AI projects in healthcare.

The award-winning initiative, developed jointly by MCC’s incubation hub MIINT (Malabar Cancer Centre Incubation Innovation Nest) and the startup Vellitix, is titled “AI Oncology Agent for Evidence-based Summaries, Guideline Support, and Clinical Trial Matching.”

This AI tool rapidly analyses patient treatment data, aiding doctors in making accurate, evidence-based clinical decisions.

Another MCC-backed project, “AI Tools for Advancing Value-Based Care in Oncology,” created in collaboration with Doctor Assist AI, also received national recognition, placing among the country’s top 35 initiatives.

The project focuses on delivering high-quality treatment outcomes efficiently, promoting the principles of value-based care.

Established in 2025, MIINT provides a structured incubation environment for medtech startups, linking innovative ideas to practical clinical applications.

The centre supports startups with mentorship, clinical validation, and strategic guidance, and currently oversees seven successful ventures across healthcare domains.

The grant was formally presented to MCC Director Dr. Satheesh B. and Vellitix Director Dr. Dheeraj B. by ICMR Director General Dr. Rajiv Bal and IT Secretary Mr. Krishnan at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. MCC faculty mentors, including Dr. Deepak Roshan, Dr. Praveen Kumar Shenoy V.P., and Dr. Geetha M., were also present at the ceremony.

Health Minister Veena George lauded the MCC team for driving innovation in AI-based medical solutions.
