Washington, Feb 22 (UNI) US President Donald Trump has called on Netflix to remove board member Susan Rice, urging the company to act “immediately” or face consequences. His remarks followed comments Rice made during a recent podcast interview, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
In a post shared on TruthSocial, Trump wrote, “Netflix should fire racist, Trump deranged Susan Rice, immediately, or pay the consequences.” He added, “She’s got no talent or skills – Purely a political hack! Her power is gone, and will never be back. How much is she being paid, and for what???”
Trump’s post included a screenshot of a message on X from political activist Laura Loomer, who reacted to Rice’s appearance on the ‘Stay Tuned with Preet’ podcast hosted by Preet Bharara. During the interview, Rice discussed corporations she believed acted out of short-term self-interest by aligning with Trump.
“For those that decided that they would act in their perceived very narrow self interest, which I would underscore as very short-term self-interest, and take a knee to Trump, I think they are now starting to realize, ‘Wait a minute, this is not popular. Trump is not popular,’” Rice said, as quoted by The Hollywood Reporter.
Bharara suggested there could be political consequences for companies if electoral outcomes shift. Rice also referenced what she described as an “accountability agenda,” saying, “There will be an accountability agenda. You know, companies already are starting to hear they better preserve their documents. They better be ready for subpoenas. If they’ve done something wrong, they’ll be held accountable, and if they haven’t broken the law, good for them.”
Loomer’s social media post highlighted Rice’s “accountability agenda” remark and also criticised a potential Netflix–Warner Bros. merger, alleging it could create a streaming monopoly. She tagged both Trump and FCC Chairman Brendan Carr in her message.
Earlier this month, amid an ongoing contest involving Netflix and Paramount Skydance to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery, Trump stated he would not intervene. “I haven’t been involved… I’ve decided I shouldn’t be involved. The Justice Department will handle it,” he said, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Rice currently serves on Netflix’s board of directors. She previously held senior government roles, including US National Security Advisor from 2013 to 2017 and Domestic Policy Advisor from 2021 to 2023.
