New Delhi, 22 Feb (UNI) An LPG cylinder exploded as fire and police personnel were attempting to extinguish a house fire in northwest Delhi’s Majlis Park, injuring 13 people, officials said on Sunday.
According to the police, the explosion injured six police officers and firefighters who had been deployed after a blaze broke out at the house around 9:00 AM.
“Several residents inside the building and people in the surrounding areas were also hurt in the incident,” an officer said.
Police and fire brigade teams rushed to the crime scene and immediately began firefighting and rescue operations.
“During the operation, an LPG cylinder exploded, injuring several personnel who were working to extinguish the fire and evacuate residents,” another senior police officer said.
Three police officers from the Adarsh Nagar police station and three officials from the Wazirpur Fire Office were injured in the incident.
All the injured were first taken to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital for treatment. Owing to the severity of their injuries, they were later referred to Safdarjung Hospital for further medical attention, the officer said, adding that their condition is being closely monitored.
The fire was brought under control after sustained efforts by the fire department. Authorities are now assessing the extent of damage to vehicles and property parked in the stilt area.
“The probe is ongoing to determine the exact cause of the fire,” the officer said, adding that officials are examining whether the blaze was triggered by an electrical short circuit or an LPG leak in the parking area.
