New Delhi, Feb 20 (UNI) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday alleged that the first year of the Rekha Gupta-led BJP government in Delhi has been marked by “farziwada” and broken promises, claiming that the administration has failed across key sectors, including women’s welfare, pollution control, education, healthcare, employment and civic services.
AAP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, along with Delhi unit president Saurabh Bharadwaj and MLA Kuldeep Kumar, presented what they described as a “report card” of the BJP government’s one year in office. Sisodia alleged that instead of delivering on electoral promises, the government had spent the past 12 months betraying public trust.
Sisodia claimed that women in Delhi were not given the promised monthly financial assistance of Rs 2,500, which, he said, had been guaranteed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Assembly election campaign. He alleged that despite assurances that the scheme would begin from March 8, 2025, no payments had been made so far.
On pollution, the AAP leader alleged that the government failed to take effective measures to improve air quality and instead, attempted to manipulate AQI data. He claimed that monitoring centres were shut or shifted, and water sprinklers were installed near some stations to influence readings. He further alleged that Delhi witnessed some of its worst air quality levels during the past year.
Expressing concern about education, Sisodia alleged that the BJP government reduced the education budget, discontinued the Happiness Curriculum and Entrepreneurship Curriculum introduced during the tenure of former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, and halted specialised coaching programmes. He also claimed that Schools of Specialised Excellence were shut or restructured.
On private schools, Sisodia alleged that there had been steep fee hikes after the BJP formed the government and claimed that the law brought to regulate fees had not provided relief to parents. He further alleged that no significant action was taken against schools accused of arbitrary increases.
In the health sector, the AAP leader claimed that free medicines and diagnostic tests in government hospitals had been curtailed and that construction of several public hospitals initiated under the previous government had been stalled. He also alleged that Mohalla Clinics were shut and contractual staff removed, leading to job losses.
Sisodia further alleged that more than one lakh youth working in various government departments lost their jobs during the past year. He claimed that bus marshals, data entry operators, DTC workers and staff associated with Mohalla Clinics were among those removed.
On housing and civic issues, he alleged that the BJP government demolished jhuggis despite promising “Jahan Jhuggi Wahan Makaan,” and that garbage disposal, sewer management and drinking water supply had deteriorated. He also claimed that pothole-ridden roads had led to accidents and fatalities.
The AAP leader further alleged that about eight lakh ration cards were cancelled and that pensions for widows and elderly citizens were stopped. On law and order, he claimed there had been a rise in serious crimes and missing persons cases in recent months.
