AAP alleges removal of ‘Delhi Behaal’ hoardings targeting BJP government

New Delhi, Feb 19 (UNI) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday alleged that nearly 150 hoardings put up across the national capital with the slogan “Ek Saal, Delhi Behaal, Yaad Aa Rahe Kejriwal” were removed or torn down by authorities under the BJP-led Delhi government.

AAP Delhi State president Saurabh Bharadwaj claimed that the hoardings were installed legally after making payments to vendors and were displayed in areas including Connaught Place, South Delhi, Central Delhi, East Delhi, North Delhi and NDMC zones. He alleged that despite being validly placed, officials from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) removed them.

Bharadwaj further alleged that vendors were being threatened with blacklisting and denial of government work if they did not take down the hoardings. He said the posters did not feature photographs of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta or Prime Minister Narendra Modi and only carried the message referring to one year of the BJP government in Delhi.

The AAP leader also claimed that directions to remove the hoardings were issued from the Chief Minister’s Office to MCD Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar, who then instructed subordinate officials to take action. He alleged that officials were told to remove all AAP hoardings, irrespective of whether they were legal or illegal.

Bharadwaj shared photographs and videos on social media purportedly showing hoardings being removed from Connaught Place. He alleged that the BJP government was attempting to suppress opposition voices.
