PM Modi holds bilateral talks with Dutch, Swiss, and Greek leaders at AI Summit

‎New Delhi, Feb 19 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Thursday, held a series of high-level bilateral meetings with leaders from the Netherlands, Switzerland and Greece on the sidelines of the AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi, focusing on expanding cooperation in digital technologies, trade, connectivity, and strategic sectors.

‎Prime Minister Modi met Prime Minister of Netherlands Dick Schoof during the summit, underlining the growing convergence between India and the Netherlands in emerging technologies.

‎“Met Prime Minister Dick Schoof on the sidelines of the AI Impact Summit. The Netherlands has made significant strides in the digital and AI world and our nations will work together in these sectors,” Modi said in a post on X.

‎The discussions also covered strengthening cooperation in semiconductors, mega water projects, green hydrogen, talent mobility and counterterrorism.

Officials noted that the Netherlands’ expertise in water management and high-tech manufacturing aligns closely with India’s infrastructure expansion and digital transformation goals.

‎The meeting reflected New Delhi’s broader push to deepen partnerships with technologically advanced European nations as India positions itself as a global hub for innovation and semiconductor manufacturing.

‎On the sidelines of the summit, Prime Minister Modi also met Guy Parmelin, President of the Swiss Confederation, reviewing the full spectrum of bilateral ties.

‎“Had an excellent meeting with Mr. Guy Parmelin… We reviewed the full range of India-Switzerland relations, especially ways to boost linkages in education, technology and talent mobility,” Modi said.

‎The Prime Minister highlighted that 2026 had begun on an exceptional note for India-Europe relations with the signing of the India–EU Free Trade Agreement. He also noted that since October 2025, the India–EFTA Trade Agreement has become operational, providing fresh momentum to trade and investment ties.

‎Officials said the operationalisation of the India–EFTA pact has enhanced market access and is expected to boost collaboration in innovation-driven sectors, pharmaceuticals, precision engineering and financial services.

‎Prime Minister Modi also held talks with Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who is on a visit to India from February 18–19, to participate in the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi.

‎Mitsotakis is accompanied by Dimitrios Papastergiou, Greece’s Minister of Digital Governance, along with a delegation of senior officials.

‎In his post, Modi said, “Had an excellent meeting with Kyriakos Mitsotakis… In recent years, the India-Greece Strategic Partnership has made significant progress. Today’s talks focused on ways to enhance ties in connectivity, defence, talent mobility and shipping. We will also work together to deepen cultural as well as people-to-people linkages.”

‎The two leaders reviewed the entire gamut of the bilateral strategic partnership and expressed satisfaction at the steady expansion of cooperation across sectors. They also exchanged views on regional and global issues and appreciated recent connectivity initiatives, including the potential for further expansion under the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC).

‎Both sides agreed that recent high-level exchanges have injected new momentum into ties. The leaders noted that the recently concluded India–EU Free Trade Agreement would open new avenues for trade and investment between the two countries.

‎This marks Mitsotakis’ second visit to India. He had earlier paid a State visit in February 2024 — the first visit by a Greek Head of Government to India in 15 years. Prime Minister Modi had also visited Athens on August 25, 2023, during which bilateral relations were elevated to a Strategic Partnership.

‎The series of meetings at the AI Impact Summit underscores India’s growing engagement with European partners in critical and emerging technologies, trade integration, connectivity and strategic cooperation.

‎With digital transformation, semiconductor supply chains, green energy and mobility partnerships high on the agenda, the summit provided a platform for advancing India’s vision of deeper technological and economic integration with Europe while reinforcing its role as a key global partner in the evolving AI and innovation ecosystem.
