New Delhi, Feb 19 (UNI) Tata Group, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and OpenAI on Thursday announced a strategic partnership, that will drive AI-powered innovation, and build 100 megawatts (MW) of AI infrastructure, with an option to scale up to 1 gigawatt (GW).
TCS’ HyperVault unit and OpenAI have also agreed to a multi-year partnership to develop the green-energy powered infrastructure in India.
“This infrastructure will power next-generation AI workloads and position India as a global AI hub,” the Tata group said, and added that the partnership will span across enterprise, consumer, and social sectors.
The partnership will cover multiple high-impact areas, including powering AI-led innovation across Tata Group companies, joint efforts to drive AI transformation across industries globally, and setting up AI infrastructure.
Speaking on the occasion, Sam Altman, CEO, OpenAI, said, “India is already leading the way in AI adoption, and with its talent, ambition, and strong government support, it is well placed to help shape its future.”
He added that his group’s partnership with Tata Group, will “together build the infrastructure, skills, and local partnerships needed to build AI with India, for India, and in India.”
As part of the collaboration, several thousand employees across Tata Group companies will gain access to Enterprise ChatGPT, enabling teams to enhance productivity, streamline workflows, and accelerate innovation across functions.
Besides, TCS will leverage OpenAI’s Codex to boost software engineering outcomes, driving higher efficiency and improved development cycles across client projects.

The partnership will bring together OpenAI’s cutting-edge Agentic AI capabilities and TCS’ deep contextual industry knowledge to co-create industry-specific AI solutions. By combining advanced AI models with sectoral expertise, the two organizations aim to deliver impactful, domain-focused AI applications tailored to real-world enterprise challenges.
TCS and OpenAI will also collaborate on joint go-to-market initiatives to enable Indian and global enterprises to transform through AI-powered solutions tailored to their unique organizational contexts.
The OpenAI Foundation and TCS said the duo will also collaborate to provide AI training and resources to Indian youth, enabling them to apply AI responsibly and efficiently on a large scale.
