US trade deal betrays Indian farmers: Patwari

By Special Correspondent

Bhopal: The Congress has launched a sharp attack on the Centre over the recent trade agreement with the United States, alleging that the deal undermines the interests of Indian farmers. Addressing a “Kisan Akrosh Rally” in Mohana under the Bhitarwar Assembly constituency of Gwalior district, Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee president Jeetu Patwari said the agreement was signed “under pressure” and at the cost of farmers’ livelihoods.

The rally was organised by former minister Lakhan Singh Yadav and attended by senior Congress leaders including former minister Jaivardhan Singh, Congress national secretary Kunal Choudhary, Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Singh and former minister P C Sharma.

Patwari alleged that central government had compromised farmers’ interests while finalising the agreement with the US. He described the pact as “a sword placed at the throat of farmers”, claiming it jeopardised their crops and future.

He further alleged that disclosures in the so-called Epstein files had embarrassed the government, prompting it to “mortgage national self-respect”. Patwari also criticised Chief Minister, accusing him of making unrealistic claims about agricultural productivity.

The Congress leader asserted that Rahul Gandhi remained steadfast in defending farmers’ rights and said the party would take the issue to households across Madhya Pradesh.
