Police seize drugs worth over Rs 21.97 cr in crackdown

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Police have intensified action against the illegal manufacture, trafficking and cultivation of narcotics under a zero-tolerance policy, seizing contraband worth more than Rs 21.97 crore in two major operations in Neemuch and Rajgarh districts.

In Neemuch, acting on a tip-off received on 11 February, the Jat police outpost discovered illegal opium cultivation concealed amid a cotton crop in village Luhariya Jat. The information was verified using technical surveillance and drone searches. Police seized 11,600 green opium plants weighing 9 quintals and 76 kilograms, with an estimated value of Rs 97.60 lakh. A case has been registered under the NDPS Act and the accused has been arrested.

In Rajgarh, police arrested two individuals in separate actions and recovered a total of 21.510 kilograms of MD drugs valued at approximately Rs 21 crore. Of this, 10.160 kilograms were seized from a house in village Arniya, while 11.350 kilograms were recovered from a mustard field following further interrogation.

Police stated that sustained, planned and stringent measures would continue to curb drug trafficking across the State.
