PM Modi praises ‘Bastar Pandum,’ highlights cultural revival, development in Chhattisgarh

‎New Delhi, Feb 10 (UNI) ‎Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday lauded the successful ayojan of ‘Bastar Pandum’, a three-day cultural festival held in Chhattisgarh from February 7 to 9, saying it showcased the rich cultural, traditional, and tribal heritage of the Bastar region and reflected a positive transformation in the area.

‎In a post on social media platform X, the Prime Minister congratulated everyone associated with the event and underlined the importance of such initiatives in preserving India’s cultural legacy.

‎“Between 7 and 9 February, a special event called ‘Bastar Pandum’ was organized in Chhattisgarh. During this festival, the rich culture, traditions, and tribal heritage of Bastar were showcased in a grand manner,” Modi said.

‎He added that community-driven cultural platforms play a crucial role beyond celebration.

‎“Such events play an important role in preserving our cultural heritage and empowering local communities,” the Prime Minister noted, while extending “heartfelt congratulations” to all those involved in organising the festival.

‎Highlighting the region’s changing narrative, Modi said Bastar was once largely associated with Maoism, violence, and underdevelopment, but the situation has undergone a significant transformation in recent years.

‎“Earlier, when Bastar was mentioned, it evoked images of Maoism, violence and backwardness. But now the situation has completely changed,” he said.

‎According to the Prime Minister, Bastar today is increasingly being recognised for development initiatives and the growing confidence among its people.

‎“Today, Bastar is known not only for development but also for the growing self-confidence of its local people,” he said.

‎Expressing optimism for the region’s future, Modi said he hoped Bastar would continue on a path of peace, progress, and cultural pride.

‎“It is my sincere hope that the times ahead for this region are filled with peace, progress, and a sense of cultural pride,” he added.

‎‘Bastar Pandum’ is a cultural festival aimed at celebrating Bastar’s indigenous traditions, tribal art forms, folk music, dance, cuisine and customs. The event is part of broader efforts to promote tribal heritage, tourism and inclusive development in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region, which has historically been affected by left-wing extremism.
