Bhopal/Indore: The Indore water contamination tragedy in the Bhagirathpura area has claimed 32 lives so far and left thousands seriously ill, triggering sharp political reactions and public outrage. The Pradesh Congress Committee has termed the incident a man-made disaster, alleging gross negligence, administrative failure and insensitivity on the part of the BJP-led Madhya Pradesh government.

According to the Congress, the tragedy was caused by sewage mixing with drinking water due to old and damaged pipelines, irregular water quality testing and the failure to undertake timely corrective measures. Addressing a massive protest at Rajwada in Indore, Pradesh Congress president Jeetu Patwari accused the state government of failing to act decisively against erring officials or provide adequate relief to affected families.

Patwari said that despite the loss of innocent lives, no concrete action has been taken to fix responsibility or ensure justice. He demanded compensation of at least Rs 1 crore for each bereaved family, a government job for one family member, criminal proceedings against guilty officials, and a permanent arrangement for the supply of safe drinking water in the affected area.

Senior Congress leaders, public representatives, party workers and a large number of local residents participated in the dharna to express solidarity with the victims. Patwari asserted that the Congress would continue its agitation until justice is delivered, accountability is fixed and effective steps are taken to prevent such tragedies in future, reiterating that the party stands firmly with the affected citizens.
