MP Police seize Illegal liquor worth Rs 67.34 lakh

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Police have intensified their crackdown on the illegal manufacture, transportation and sale of liquor, seizing illicit alcohol and vehicles worth Rs 67.34 lakh in separate operations in Sheopur and Katni districts.

In Sheopur, Dehat police intercepted a suspicious truck during a blockade near the Rajasthan–Sheopur border. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 635 cartons of Indian-made foreign liquor, totalling 4,863 bulk litres. The liquor and the truck were seized, with an estimated combined value of Rs 58.90 lakh. Two accused were arrested and booked under the Excise Act.

In a similar operation in Katni, police acted on a tip-off about illegal liquor being transported in a car. During vehicle checking at Deveritola village, the suspects attempted to flee but abandoned the car and escaped. Police recovered 24 cartons of country liquor, amounting to 216 bulk litres, valued at around Rs 8.44 lakh. One accused has been arrested, while efforts are on to trace others.

Further investigations into the supply network are underway.
