Congress alleges voter list manipulation, FIR lodged

Bhopal: Alleging an attack on the very foundations of democracy, the Congress on Tuesday accused BJP functionaries of attempting to remove long-time residents’ names from the electoral rolls by misusing Form-7. The party said efforts to delete voters who have lived in the area for 40 to 50 years amounted to an unconstitutional move and a direct assault on citizens’ voting rights.

Former minister P.C. Sharma reached the TT Nagar ACP office along with voters from booth numbers 12 and 13 of Seoniya Gond in the South-West Assembly constituency, where an FIR was registered against those allegedly involved. Congress leaders said the attempt to alter voter lists under political protection was aimed at silencing the public even before elections.

Addressing supporters, Sharma said the struggle was not merely about restoring a few names, but about safeguarding the soul of democracy — the right to vote. He warned that attempts to erase voters from electoral rolls were tantamount to undermining democratic values.

District Congress Committee president Praveen Saxena, corporators Yogendra Singh Guddu Chauhan and Devanshu Kasana, along with several party leaders and workers, were present. The Congress asserted that the fight against injustice would continue and vowed to protect voting rights at all costs.
