AAP slams Delhi govt’s private school fee law, calls it a ‘fraud on middle class’

New Delhi, Feb 2 (UNI) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday launched a sharp attack on the BJP-led Delhi government, alleging that its much-publicised law to regulate private school fees has failed to provide any relief to parents and has instead turned into a “fraud” on the middle class.

Delhi AAP President Saurabh Bhardwaj, in a post on social media platform X, claimed that the Delhi School Education (Transparency in Fixation and Regulation of Fees) Act, 2025, which was projected by the BJP as a “master stroke” to control private school fees, will neither control nor reduce the steep fee hikes imposed by private schools for the 2025–26 academic session.

According to Bhardwaj, the Delhi government informed the Supreme Court that the Act would not review or roll back the fees that were allegedly increased by private schools during the current academic year.

He further alleged that soon after the BJP came to power in Delhi, several private schools raised their fees by 20 to 80 per cent, putting severe financial pressure on middle-class families.

“The BJP government is actively working for the private school owners’ lobby, while parents are being forced to bear the burden of exorbitant fees,” Bhardwaj said in his post.

The AAP leader accused the BJP of misleading parents by promising fee regulation while failing to act against what he described as arbitrary hikes by private educational institutions.

“This act was brought in and pushed on people of Delhi with zero transparency by the Rekha Gupta-led Delhi Govt. No parents’ association was consulted, and no public comments were invited on the draft bill. We had always maintained that this act is to help the Private Schools owners. Education Minister Ashsi Sood & CM Rekha Gupta have cheated lakhs of parents and students studying in Private schools,” he posted on X.
