New Delhi, Feb 2 (UNI) Delhi legislative assembly speaker Vijender Gupta on Monday launched the Annual Health Check-Up Programme for sitting MLAs at Civil Line”s Sant Parmanand Hospital, saying that healthy representatives lead to stronger institutions and better public service.
Inaugurating the programme, Gupta said the initiative reflects a new beginning achieved through dialogue and consensus among all Members of the Legislative Assembly.
The health check-ups will be conducted from February 2 to February 14, 2026, under the existing health framework of the Delhi government.
Speaker said that six MLAs would undergo medical examinations every day as part of the programme.
On the first day, Surya Prakash Khatri, Poonam Bhardwaj and Anil Jha participated in the health check-up, while three other MLAs could not attend due to personal reasons.
Calling the initiative a positive step, Gupta stressed that public representatives must remain physically fit, mentally healthy and emotionally positive to serve people effectively.
He added that regular health check-ups become especially important after the age of 40, when preventive healthcare plays a key role.
Speaker said the two-week programme aims to encourage awareness about health among legislators and described it as a unique initiative of the Delhi Legislative Assembly.
Expressing confidence that the initiative would inspire other states, Gupta appealed to Speakers across the country to introduce similar programmes for elected representatives, enabling them to serve the public with greater strength, energy and effectiveness.
