MP Cong warns of legal action against voter list manipulation

By Special Correspondent

Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee on Saturday claimed to have exposed what it described as a serious, organised and well-planned conspiracy to weaken democracy through large-scale manipulation of electoral rolls in the state. The party alleged collusion between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), its Booth Level Agents (BLA/BLA-2) and certain administrative officials.

Speaking to this Correspondent, state Congress spokesperson Rahul Raj said that questions raised earlier by Rahul Gandhi regarding alleged vote theft and tampering of voter lists in Bihar, Bengaluru and Haryana through BLAs had remained unanswered. He referred to the Bengaluru case, where one person was allegedly able to get another voter’s name deleted using a third person’s mobile number, and said a similar pattern was now visible in Madhya Pradesh.

The Congress alleged that Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, minority and opposition-supporting voters were being systematically removed from electoral rolls through the misuse of Form-7 and the BLA-2 system, raising fresh doubts over the impartiality of the Election Commission.

Meanwhile, state Congress general secretary Amit Sharma presented documentary material before mediapersons along with what he termed live evidence, claiming that a single individual was filing between 50 and 100 fake objections. The party warned that if the process was not halted immediately and fraudulent applications were not cancelled, FIRs would be lodged within 24 hours against those involved.
