Irregularities in voter list revision raise questions on EC

By Special Correspondent

Bhopal: Former minister Sajjan Singh Verma on Thursday alleged serious irregularities in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Madhya Pradesh, claiming they have cast grave doubts on the impartiality and transparency of the Election Commission. Addressing a press conference, Verma was accompanied by voter list in-charge Lalit Sen and state spokesperson Swadesh Sharma.

Verma said that during the second phase of the SIR process, conducted between December 23, 2025 and January 22, 2026, thousands of online and offline objections were filed across the state. However, he alleged that neither were these objections resolved fairly nor were objectors provided legally mandated information. He pointed to complaints from several districts where Booth Level Officers (BLOs) allegedly filled as many as 50 forms in a single day, suggesting an organised conspiracy.

The Congress leader claimed that many objections followed an identical pattern and handwriting. In Narela Assembly constituency alone, he said, 4,882 objections were submitted in this manner, making the process highly suspect.

Verma further alleged that tribal communities, minorities and other vulnerable groups were deliberately targeted. In Indore and nearby areas, objections were selectively filed against tribal and Muslim voters. He claimed attempts were made to delete the names of 30 to 50 voters using the same mobile number and email ID, and that over 50 objections were filed against a single individual.

Demanding action, Verma called for FIRs on all Form-7 objections, cancellation of mass objections, public disclosure of district-wise data, and an independent probe by the Election Commission. He said the Congress would raise the issue from the streets to the courts to protect democracy and the Constitution.
