Congress holds martyrs’ remembrance meeting

Bhopal: A grand martyrs’ remembrance meeting was organised on Thursday at the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee office in Bhopal under the aegis of the Madhya Pradesh Congress Freedom Fighters’ Families Cell. The programme was aimed at expressing gratitude to freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for India’s independence and to the families of martyrs.

Providing details, Cell state president Ajay Sitalani said that on the occasion, 116-year-old freedom fighter Swami Lekhraj Singh, along with Pandurang Ganpat Shinde, Dayaramji Namdev and Rajesh Badal, were honoured and paid tribute. Former minister and senior Congress leader Sajjan Singh Verma was the chief guest at the event.

The programme was chaired and guided by Dr Mahendra Singh Chauhan, in-charge of the Cell of the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee. State organisation in-charge Dr Sanjay Kamle attended as a special guest and honoured the families of martyrs.

Addressing the gathering, speakers said that honouring freedom fighters and martyrs’ families was not merely a formality but a commitment to safeguarding democracy and the Constitution. They underlined that the Congress party has always remained dedicated to remembering the contribution of freedom fighters and to upholding the dignity and rights of their families.

Detailed information about the programme was shared by Cell general secretary Ashok Kumar Sidhu, while the proceedings were conducted by Cell spokesperson Vikas Joshi. The programme began with the lighting of the lamp and rendition of the national song, and concluded with the national anthem.
