New Delhi, Jan 27 (UNI) India and the European union on Tuesday signed a total of thirteen agreements and arrangements, ranging from crucial domains including security, defence, trade, economy, finance, clean energy and others.
Besides the India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA), crucial agreements and arrangements in defense, securities and markets, cooperation in movement, skill mobility, Disaster Risk Management, Green Hydrogen Task Force, scientific and technical cooperation, have been finalised among a total of 13 areas where pacts or understandings were readided.
These agreements and arrangements inked here are also in line with India’s approach to secure partnerships that are trustworthy, comes with mutual benefits, and are balanced.
In the Defence and Security sector, the pact is focused on counter terrorism, maritime security, and paving way for the country’s firms to get exposure to the EU defence programs.
“The cooperation in movement, skill mobility, deals were regarding facilitating students, workers, and professionals movement across EU countries, which also includes a pilot Legal Gateway Office,” explained officials.
The country which has a young and talented workforce, also the fastest growing economies of the globe will gain from the agreement in terms of creating new jobs, support innovation, and open the doors to opportunities for its people across different fields in the EU.
The agreement on trade encompasses areas such as trade in goods, services, trade remedies, rules of origin, customs and trade facilitation, as well as emerging areas such as SMEs and digital trade, amongst others.
Interestingly, progressing towards initiatives aimed towards environment conservation and protection, the Green Hydrogen Task Force has been agreed upon, to advance cooperation in hydrogen production, its storage, and also creating distribution system.
To facilitate a secure and seamless digital trade between the country and the EU, Administrative Arrangement on Advanced Electronic Seals and Signatures has been made.
Another area is Cooperation and Disaster Risk Management, in which the understanding will be to enhance cooperation in disaster management and risk reduction.
The newly signed agreements are expected to boost trade, investment, and strategic cooperation between India and the EU, and will create new business opportunities for people on both the sides.
