Dehra ( Kàngra), Jan 23 (UNI) In a major action under the “Drug-Free Himachal Campaign” launched by Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Dehra district police have dealt a strong blow to drug traffickers by seizing 27 grams of heroin and arresting two persons.
Dehra Superintendent of Police Mayank Choudhary told UNI that following a zero-tolerance policy against drug abuse and trafficking, Dehra police have intensified their drive, registering the third chitta recovery in three consecutive days.
He said that the latest seizure, made late Wednesday night, is the largest recovery since the formation of Dehra police district.
He said that a patrol team from Dehra police station intercepted two suspicious persons near Kurru area close to a rivulet during midnight patrolling on January 22. On search, 27 grams of chitta was recovered from their possession.
The arrested accused have been identified as Ajay Kumar (32), a resident of Nurpur village in Ferozepur district of Punjab, and Krishna (25), a native of Sitamarhi district in Bihar, currently residing in Ludhiana, Punjab.
Both accused were taken into custody on the spot and a case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered at Dehra police station. Further investigation is underway.
Earlier, on January 20, police recovered 1.30 grams of chitta and 32 intoxicant capsules from a trafficker at Rakkar police station, followed by another seizure of 1.33 grams of chitta on January 21.
With the latest arrests, Dehra district police have arrested four drug traffickers in the last three days, seizing a total of 29.63 grams of chitta and 32 intoxicant capsules.
Dehra police have appealed to the public to immediately report any suspicious drug-related activity to the nearest police station and cooperate in making Himachal Pradesh drug-free.
