Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary and organisation in-charge Dr Sanjay Kamle has announced that Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi will be on a visit to Indore on January 17, 2026. During his visit, Gandhi will reach Bhagirathpura to meet families affected by contaminated drinking water and hear their grievances firsthand. He will also hold detailed discussions with Congress councillors in Indore.

Dr Kamle said that, on the directions of state Congress president Jeetu Patwari, a one-day fast will be observed on January 17 by urban and rural District Congress Committees across Madhya Pradesh. The protest is being organised against loss of life due to polluted drinking water, alleged administrative negligence and the insensitivity of the BJP government.

He stated that the programme aims to protect legal rights under MGNREGA, ensure justice for workers, demand strict action against those responsible for deaths in Bhagirathpura, and fix accountability for the declining quality of drinking water across the state. Rahul Gandhi’s address will be telecast live at all district headquarters.
