French President’s visit to India to reinforce the strong India-France Strategic Partnership

New Delhi, Jan 15 (UNI) French President Emmanuel Macron is scheduled to visit India in February to attend the India-AI Impact Summit, likely to take place on February 19-20.

Sources said the main purpose of his visit is to attend the India-AI Impact Summit. India is hosting the Summit for the first time. This follows the successful AI Action Summit held in Paris, which the two leaders co-chaired in February 2025.

The visit will provide an opportunity for discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other Indian officials to reinforce the strong India-France Strategic Partnership, in line with the “Horizon 2047 Roadmap”.

The ‘Horizon 2047 Roadmap’ is meant to set the course for the bilateral relationship up to 2047, which will celebrate the centenary of India’s independence, the centenary of the diplomatic relations between the two countries and 50 years of the strategic partnership.

The sources said discussions between the two leaders are expected to cover ongoing bilateral initiatives in various sectors, including Security and Defence, continuation of the existing Defence industrial roadmaps and cooperation on advanced technologies.

The two countries plan to inaugurate the India-France Year of Innovation in March. Discussions will also focus on securing supply chains for vital rare earth minerals and semiconductors.

The two leaders are also likely to exchange views on regional and international matters of mutual concern, including the Indo-Pacific, the Middle East, and global governance in the technology sector.

Preparations for the visit have been ongoing, with high-level meetings between officials from both nations, including the 38th India-France Strategic Dialogue held in New Delhi on January 13, 2026. National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval and Emmanuel Bonne, Diplomatic Adviser to the French President, co-chaired the 38th India-France Strategic Dialogue.

During the Strategic Dialogue, the two countries reiterated their commitment to the strategic partnership. They discussed ongoing bilateral initiatives spanning the domains of security, defence, technology, space, and civil nuclear cooperation, the External Affairs Ministry said.

Opportunities were explored for joint-development and collaboration in the spirit of Make in India and Atmnirbhar Bharat. Discussions included the evolving geopolitical situation as well as regional and international issues of common concern.

The two sides also reviewed preparations for the upcoming visit of Emmanuel Macron. Both sides underscored the importance of closer cooperation to address challenges in the global security environment, to advance peace and stability, the External Affairs Ministry added.

Prime Minister Modi visited France on February 10-12, 2025.
