India renews travel advisory to Iran, asks citizens to avoid travelling completely

New Delhi, Jan 14 (UNI) As internal crisis is mounting and death toll in government action against protesters are mounting in Iran, government of India has renewed its advisory to its citizens on Wednesday to avoid travel to the trouble-torn country.

After issuing the first travel advisory advising Indians to avoid “non-essential” travel on January 5, the External Affairs Ministry on Wednesday renewed the advisory and advised its citizens to “avoid travel to the Islamic Republic of Iran until further notice”.

On January 5, the External Affairs Ministry of India, besides advising its citizens to avoid “non-essential” travel to Iran, had also asked Indian citizens and PIOs currently in Iran to “exercise due caution, avoid areas of protests or demonstrations, and closely monitor news as well as the website and social media handles of the Embassy of India in Tehran.”

The External Affairs Ministry also advised people who are already there to “register with the Indian Embassy immediately”.

As per reports, death toll in government action against protesters in Iran has crossed 2,500 as on Wednesday. With the US President Donald Trump assuring all kinds of support to the protesters, the internal situation is expected to worsen in coming days.
