New Delhi Jan 14 (UNI) The Aam Aadmi Party has leveled serious allegations of administrative collusion and inaction over large-scale illegal sand mining in Delhi’s Burari area, claiming the operation has caused revenue losses worth thousands of crores.
AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj and Burari MLA Sanjeev Jha presented video evidence they say shows hundreds of trucks illegally transporting sand from the Yamuna riverbed daily. They alleged the activity has continued unchecked for months despite repeated written complaints to the Chief Minister, Lieutenant Governor, District Magistrate, and Delhi Police.
“The scale and openness of this operation point to only one thing: a clear nexus,” said Bharadwaj. He stated that a several kilometer dirt road, built through agricultural fields to access the riverbank, could not have been constructed without official knowledge. He further claimed the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Burari had granted formal permission for this road.
The AAP leaders said action was only initiated after the National Green Tribunal took cognizance of the matter and ordered the formation of a Special Task Force. Both the Delhi and Uttar Pradesh governments have officially informed the NGT that no mining permission was granted for the site.
Burari MLA Sanjeev Jha highlighted the environmental impact, stating that pumping water out for mining is drying parts of the Yamuna and increasing flood risks. “This is not just theft; it is an open violation of the law and a direct attack on the environment,” Jha said. Bharadwaj questioned the silence of local BJP representatives and predicted retaliatory action against Jha for exposing the issue. “In the BJP, there is no place for those who expose theft. Only collusion operates there,” he alleged.
