New Delhi, Jan 13 (UNI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday condemned the Information and Broadcasting Ministry’s attempt to block the film ‘Jana Nayagan’, calling it an attack on Tamil culture.
In a post on X, Gandhi said, “The I&B Ministry’s attempt to block ‘Jana Nayagan’ is an attack on Tamil culture. Mr Modi, you will never succeed in suppressing the voice of the Tamil people.”
The I&B Ministry had reportedly initiated steps to block or withhold clearance for the film, citing concerns related to certification norms and content guidelines. Also, the Ministry has asked YouTube to remove the film’s trailer, citing certain scenes that were deemed objectionable.
Gandhi’s remarks come amid ongoing tensions between the Central and the Tamil Nadu governments over various issues.
The Congress leader’s statement has been seen as a show of solidarity with the Tamil people and a defence of their cultural heritage. The film ‘Jana Nayagan’ has been widely acclaimed for its portrayal of Tamil politics and culture.
