New Delhi, Jan 11 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and several senior leaders on Sunday paid tribute to former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna Lal Bahadur Shastri on his death anniversary.
In a post on X, Rekha Gupta said she offered floral tributes at Shastri’s memorial at Vijay Ghat. She described him as a symbol of simplicity, integrity and strong moral courage. She said Shastri believed that power was a means of public service and leadership was a responsibility towards people’s trust.
Rekha Gupta said Shastri’s famous slogan “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan” reflected his equal respect for soldiers and farmers. She added that his ideals, moral values and selfless service to the nation would continue to inspire generations.
Delhi minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa also paid tribute to the former Prime Minister. He said Shastri’s simple life, high thinking and dedication to national service continue to guide the country. Sirsa said Shastri gave new recognition to national unity, the dignity of farmers and the pride of soldiers.
BJP minister Ashish Sood also remembered Lal Bahadur Shastri, calling him a symbol of honesty, simplicity and the guiding force behind the slogan “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan”. He said Shastri’s life remains an inspiration for the nation.
Lal Bahadur Shastri served as India’s Prime Minister from 1964 to 1966 and is remembered for his clean image, strong leadership and commitment to national values.
