Blessed to be in Somnath: PM Modi

New Delhi/Rajkot, Jan 10 (UNI) Upon arriving in Somnath, on Saturday as part of a three-day visit to Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi described Somnath Temple as a proud symbol of our civilisational courage.

In a post on X, PM Modi wrote, “Feeling blessed to be in Somnath, a proud symbol of our civilisational courage. This visit comes during Somnath Swabhiman Parv, when the entire nation has come together to mark a thousand years since the first attack on the Somnath Temple in 1026. Grateful to the people for the warm welcome.”

Modi will be participating in the four-day Somnath Swabhiman Parv, a commemorative festival honouring the timeless resilience of the Somnath Temple. The event is being observed to mark two significant milestones, a millennium since the temple was attacked by Mahmud of Ghazni in 1026, and 75 years since the shrine was rebuilt after India’s independence in 1951.

The PM will participate in ‘Omkar Mantra’ chanting at the temple which will be chanted continuously for 72 hours in the temple complex.

During his visit, Modi will also witness a drone show at the temple. Modi will offer prayers at the Somnath temple at approximately 10:15 am on Sunday, and then participate in a public event organized to mark the ‘Somnath Swabhiman Parv’.

PM will also perform Darshan and Pooja in Somnath Temple and also participate in a public function marking Somnath Swabhiman Parv.

He reached Somnath via helicopter from Rajkot in the evening. PM Modi held a road show from the helipad to the Somnath Mahadev Temple.

Tight security arrangements have been made for PM Modi’s security in Somnath, with more than 2,000 police personnel deployed.
