Assam, Jan 10, (UNI): The Assam government will release the full report of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe against Pakistani national Ali Tauqeer Sheikh and others within the month of January, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Friday.
“Within January, we will reveal all the details of the SIT investigation against Ali Tauqeer Sheikh and others. Handing over the case to a central agency will bring out the complete picture of these heinous acts. It is a major conspiracy, and the people of Assam must about it,” he said while addressing the media.
The Chief Minister said the findings of the SIT probe would be “damning” and indicated that the investigation could deepen further once taken up by Central agencies.
“I believe the documents we currently possess are only the beginning, because being a state force we cannot access a lot of material evidence. Once the case is handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), the investigation can be significantly expanded,” Sarma said.
He also praised state officials for their role in the investigation, stating that government agencies had done “commendable work” in compiling the findings so far.
In February, Sarma had claimed that Ali Tauqeer Sheikh had visited India at least 18 times.
On 17th February, 2025, the Assam Cabinet constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the anti-India activities of one Pakistani national, Ali Tauqeer Sheikh, and his associates.
Earlier during the initial development of the case, the Assam Cabinet directed the Director General of Police (DGP) of Assam to register a case against Ali Tauqeer Sheikh under the appropriate provisions of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhtia (BNS).
