NSG’s NIDMS to be country’s next-gen security shield against terrorism: Shah

New Delhi, Jan 9 (UNI) Home Minister Amit Shah today inaugurated the National IED (Improvised Explosive Device ) Data Management System (NIDMS) of the elite anti-terror force National Security Guard (NSG) in New Delhi through video conferencing on Friday.

Besides the home minister, the Home Secretary, Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), Director General of NSG, the Director Generals of other Central Armed Police Forces, and the Director Generals of Police of various states were present.

Speaking on the occasion, Shah said that inter-agency coordination on combatting terror will improve with the launch of the new system.

The Home Minister said that the system will become the next-generation security shield against terrorism, and it will be an effective way of delivering the right information at the right time and in the right place.

The NIDMS is a secure national-level digital platform aimed at enabling the systematic collection, collation and dissemination of data related to Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), Shah said.

He emphasised that now efforts are underway to connect all of such data sources with one another, and to develop an advanced Artificial Intelligence-based software for their analysis.

With the launch of this system, Shah said that now a two-way comprehensive, integrated and online data platform will become available to NIA, Anti-Terrorism Squads (ATS) across the country, law enforcement agencies and the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs).

Data related to any explosion, or IED incident at any location will be included in this system, and by using the data, crucial information and patterns can be obtained during probe.

“NIDMS will prove extremely important in investigating terrorist activities, understanding trends in explosions, and formulating effective strategies against them,” HM added.

Shah pointed out that NSG’s database has bomb explosions from the year 1999 till now, and through the NIDMS, this data will now be made available to all police forces across the country as also various intelligence and other investigative agencies.

The Minister said that it will provide significant help in establishing inter-linkages between incidents—based on MO and circuit methods—as well as in understanding overall trends and insights, serving as a single-click access window for data scattered across different case files.

Appreciating NSG, he said it is a world-class force of the nation, which was established in 1984, and since then, irrespective of the nature of any incident, it has continuously analysed terrorist incidents across the world and has kept itself fully prepared to deal with every type of situation.

Shah said that over four decades, the NSG has been continuously transforming in line with changing security landscape.
