Indore: The Madhya Pradesh Congress on Monday held a key organisational meeting in the Rau Assembly constituency under the leadership of Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Jeetu Patwari, focusing on internal strengthening and final preparations for the proposed Nyay Yatra scheduled to be held in Indore on January 11.
The meeting was attended by AICC national secretary Usha Naidu, Indore Rural District Congress Committee president Vipin Wankhede and several senior party leaders. Organisational issues and political strategy were discussed in detail.
Following the meeting, PCC president Jeetu Patwari and Leader of the Opposition Umang Singhar attempted to visit families affected by the alleged consumption of contaminated drinking water in Indore. However, the Congress claimed that the Mohan Yadav-led state government prevented them from meeting the victims by deploying heavy police force and erecting barricades.
Despite this, Congress leaders later interacted with affected families through alternative means and released video testimonies highlighting their suffering. Patwari alleged that while official records show 17 deaths, compensation has been provided to only four families, calling it a reflection of government insensitivity and misgovernance. The party demanded strict action against those responsible and adequate compensation for all affected families.
Statewide candle march planned over Indore water tragedy
Madhya Pradesh Mahila Congress president Reena Bourasi Setia announced that the party will hold a simultaneous candle march across the state on Wednesday to protest the deaths of 17 people allegedly caused by toxic drinking water in Indore’s Bhagirathpura area. The marches will begin at 5.30 pm in all cities. In Indore, the candle march will be held at Regal Square, where women will pay tribute to the deceased.
