- Honoring heritage
Bhopal: In a significant move to blend urban infrastructure with national pride, the city is set to rename 54 of its bus stops after prominent historical figures. This initiative, spearheaded by Mayor Malti Rai and BCLL Director Manoj Rathore, aims to immortalize the legacies of those who sacrificed for the country while educating the younger generation about their profound history.
Under this plan, daily commuters will soon find themselves boarding buses at stops named after legendary figures such as Raja Bhoj, Devi Ahilyabai, Mangal Pandey, and Emperor Ashoka. Other notable names include Sukhdev, Bajirao Peshwa, Khudiram Bose, and Dr. Rajendra Prasad.
Stops will undergo regular cleaning and painting
Beyond mere renaming, the project emphasizes holistic improvement. The Mayor confirmed that these stops will undergo regular cleaning and fresh painting. Furthermore, each location will feature informational displays regarding the specific historical figure’s contributions. Bhopal City Link Limited (BCLL) has already initiated the process through designated agencies. Moving forward, all newly constructed or beautified transit points will follow this commemorative naming convention, ensuring that the city’s geography serves as a living tribute to India’s heritage.
