New Delhi, Jan 1 (UNI) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday said that while major cities globally saw large gatherings, Connaught Place was empty due to the police action. AAP MLA Sanjeev Jha accused the BJP of placing restrictions on public celebrations.
The party’s Delhi State President, Saurabh Bharadwaj, said the BJP didn’t want people to celebrate the New Year.
“We have come across a viral video in which an individual, who identified as a BJP supporter, expresses dismay at the scene. The person recounted arriving at Connaught Place around 8:30 pm to find shops closed and a lack of festive atmosphere, questioning why Delhiites were denied the opportunity to celebrate,” the AAP leaders said.
Taking to X, AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “BJP’s Policing shortcut – Don’t let people celebrate. On New Year’s Eve, Connaught Place was deserted. There was no usual crowd. And in most countries across the world, from the USA to China, you could see lacs of people gathering at major locations to welcome the new year.”
MLA Sanjeev Jha said, “The BJP government had imposed curbs on people’s happiness even on January 1, questioning the very meaning of the power of the vote. While people elsewhere come together to celebrate and welcome the New Year, the BJP government in Delhi has placed restrictions even on these simple joys.”
