New Delhi, 1 Jan (UNI) The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), on Thursday, introduced its mascot, “सांख्यिकी” (Saankhyiki), alongside a new logo to boost the ministry’s outreach efforts.
The character intended to make statistical concepts more accessible to citizens, marking a shift in the Ministry’s visual identity as it seeks to strengthen public engagement with official statistics and underline their role in policy and governance, according to an official document from the Ministry.
The mascot is positioned as a public-facing identity for the Ministry and will feature in national sample surveys, awareness campaigns, educational material, digital platforms and public events.
The launch, held on January 1, 2026, is part of MoSPI’s broader effort to modernise its institutional image and improve outreach, particularly as data increasingly shapes government decision-making and public discourse.
According to the Ministry, the new logo is designed to reflect the theme “Data for Development.” It combines elements drawn from India’s heritage with symbols of modern statistical science. The Ashoka Chakra in the logo signifies truth, transparency and good governance, while the rupee symbol (₹) at its centre points to the role of statistics in economic planning, policymaking and national growth. The inclusion of numbers and symbols represents contemporary data systems, and an upward bar graph denotes progress supported by reliable data.
The colour palette, saffron, white, green and deep blue, draws from the national tricolour and is meant to convey growth, sustainability, stability and knowledge, reinforcing the credibility of official statistics.
