Amitabh Bachchan breaks down recalling ‘Dharmendra on KBC’

New Delhi , Dec 31 (UNI): The sets of ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ were enveloped in silence as the show opened with a heartfelt tribute to veteran actor Dharmendra, fondly remembered as Indian cinema’s original ‘He-Man’.

The episode turned deeply emotional when host Amitabh Bachchan reflected on his long-standing bond with the legendary actor, remembering him not just as a colleague but as family.

Speaking about Dharmendra’s final cinematic work, ‘Ikkis’, Bachchan described the film as a priceless legacy. “Film Ikkis is the last precious memento left behind for millions. An artist wants to practise his art till his last breath, and that is exactly what my friend, my family, my idol, Mr Dharmendra Deol did,” he said, visibly moved.

His voice faltered as he added, “He was not just a person. He was a feeling, and a feeling never leaves you. It stays with you as a memory and a blessing.”

Director Sriram Raghavan, who collaborated with Dharmendra on ‘Ikkis’, also paid tribute, calling the experience a privilege. “I am very blessed that he worked in my film. His last film is something he was extraordinarily good at,” Raghavan said.

Actor Jaideep Ahlawat echoed the sentiment, recalling Dharmendra’s warmth on set. “I was fortunate to share most of my scenes with him. It never felt like a superstar was sitting with us, he felt like family,” he shared.

Bachchan also reminisced about one of their most iconic moments together from ‘Sholay’. Recalling the emotionally charged death scene, he said, “We were shooting in Bangalore. He had a powerful physical presence, a wrestler, a true hero. The pain you saw on screen was real because of the way he held me so tightly. That agony turned into natural acting.”

The tribute transformed the ‘KBC’ stage into a space of quiet reverence, honouring Dharmendra’s enduring impact on Indian cinema. As Amitabh Bachchan struggled to hold back tears, the moment served as a reminder that while legends may step away from the screen, their legacy—and the feelings they inspire—remain eternal.
