Bhopal: The incident in Indore, where contaminated drinking water has reportedly left more than 150 people ill and led to the tragic death of four citizens, has sent shockwaves across Madhya Pradesh. Congress State Present Jeetu Patwari while, describing it as not merely an accident but a grave outcome of government negligence, insensitivity and lack of accountability, the Congress has strongly criticised the BJP-led state government.
After visiting affected families admitted at Verma Hospital in Indore, Congress leaders said the situation was deeply distressing. Fear, pain and helplessness were clearly visible on the faces of patients and their relatives. The anguish of families who have lost their loved ones, they said, was beyond words. “For any system of governance, there can be no greater crime than innocent citizens losing their lives due to administrative negligence,” a Congress leader remarked.
It was pointed out that for the past two months, residents of Indore had repeatedly complained about the supply of contaminated drinking water. However, the government and local administration allegedly failed to take the issue seriously or initiate timely corrective measures. This indifference, the party alleged, has now resulted in the loss of four lives and left hundreds of citizens battling for survival in hospitals.
The Congress said this was not an isolated incident in Madhya Pradesh, noting that similar episodes in the past have raised serious questions about the working style, sensitivity and accountability of the BJP government. “The people of the state are paying the price of corruption and negligence with their lives, which is unacceptable under any circumstances,” the party said.
Demanding a high-level and impartial inquiry into the matter, the Congress called for strict action against guilty officials, adequate compensation to the bereaved families and free, quality treatment for all affected patients. The party also expressed prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured and extended condolences to the families of the deceased, asserting that it would stand with the victims and fight at every level to ensure justice.
