New Delhi, Dec 30 (UNI): Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta on Tuesday interacted with jawans and officers of the 103rd Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) at the Delhi Vidhan Sabha. The programme was attended by CRPF personnel along with their families and children. Senior officers, including the Deputy Commandant and Assistant Commandant, were also present.

Addressing the gathering, the Speaker praised the CRPF for its discipline, courage and professionalism. He said the force plays a key role in maintaining internal security and public order across the country. Gupta highlighted the CRPF’s contribution in countering militancy and insurgency, tackling Left Wing Extremism, providing security during elections, protecting vital installations and dignitaries, and assisting civil authorities during emergencies and natural disasters. He also noted the CRPF’s participation in United Nations peacekeeping missions.

Speaker acknowledged the service of personnel who have served in difficult and sensitive areas such as Jammu and Kashmir, Dantewada, Sukma and Bijapur. He commended their dedication and commitment while working under challenging conditions.

During his address, Gupta spoke about the long history of the Delhi Vidhan Sabha. He said the institution dates back to 1911, when Delhi became the capital of British India. He recalled that several national leaders raised Indian issues in legislative forums during the colonial period. He also mentioned historic events associated with the Assembly, including the impact of the Rowlatt Act, the Jallianwala Bagh tragedy, and important legislative developments in the early 20th century. Speaker said the Vidhan Sabha continues to stand as a symbol of India’s democratic and constitutional journey.

As part of the programme, the CRPF jawans, officers and their families were taken on a guided tour of the Assembly House. They were briefed about its working, traditions and 113-year-old legislative heritage.

On the occasion, the Speaker presented a coffee table book titled ‘Delhi Legislative Assembly presents Shatabdi-Yatra – Veer Vithalbhai Patel’ as a memento. He said the book documents India’s parliamentary journey from 1925 to 2025 through rare photographs and archival records. Gupta noted that the publication was inaugurated by the Vice-President of India and was also presented to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
