Government announces general holidays for 2026

Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh government on Monday announced the list of general holidays for the year 2026. A formal notification in this regard has been issued by the General Administration Department.

According to the notification, there will be a total of 25 general holidays during the year. These include Republic Day on January 26; Holi on March 3; Gudi Padwa on March 19; Cheti Chand on March 20; Eid-ul-Fitr on March 21; Ram Navami on March 27; Mahavir Jayanti on March 31; Good Friday on April 3; and Dr Ambedkar Jayanti on April 14.

Other notified holidays are Parshuram Jayanti on April 20; Buddha Purnima on May 1; Eid-ul-Zuha on May 27; Maharana Pratap Jayanti on June 17; Muharram on June 26; Independence Day on August 15; Milad-un-Nabi on August 26; and Raksha Bandhan on August 28. Further holidays include Janmashtami on September 4; Ganesh Chaturthi on September 14; Gandhi Jayanti on October 2; Dussehra on October 20; Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti on October 26; Govardhan Puja on November 9; Guru Nanak Jayanti on November 24; and Christmas on December 25.

The notification also stated that Sant Ravidas Jayanti on February 1, Maha Shivratri on February 15, Diwali on November 8 and National Tribal Pride Day on November 15 fall on Sundays in 2026 and, therefore, no separate holiday has been declared on these dates.

In addition, 63 optional holidays have been notified. Each government employee will be eligible to avail up to three days of leave of their choice from among these optional holidays. It was further clarified that 11 optional holidays falling on Sundays have not been included in the optional holiday list.
