Dense fog disrupts air traffic, 128 flights cancelled at Delhi’s IGI airport

New Delhi, Dec 29 (UNI) Heavy fog across Delhi-NCR on Monday morning disrupted air and rail services, with low visibility severely impacting operations at the IGI Airport.

According to officials, poor visibility led to the cancellation of 128 flights, the diversion of eight others, and delays to over 200 flights.

Although Delhi airport authorities said operations have now returned to normal, the effects of earlier low visibility continued. IndiGo cancelled 80 flights across the country.

As of 10:30 am, 178 departing and 69 arriving flights at Delhi airport were delayed, according to flight tracking website Flightradar24.

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the visibility at the IGI Airport was recorded at 50 meters at 10:30 am IST on Monday. Airport operations were carried out under CAT III procedures, which permit safe landings in extremely low visibility.

Officials said flight operations were impacted from the early hours of the morning. “Flight operations are currently being conducted under CAT III conditions due to dense fog, which may result in delays or cancellations,” Delhi Airport said in a post on X.

“Our ground teams are on-site and actively assisting passengers to ensure a smooth travel experience. For the latest flight updates, please contact your respective airlines,” the statement read further.

IndiGo, Air India, and SpiceJet were among the airlines that advised passengers to check flight status before arriving at the airport.
