Guwahati, Dec 29 (UNI) Blaming previous Congress governments in Assam for the problem of infiltration, Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday said the BJP government has already expelled such infiltrators from Assam in the last decade. Shah said that in the next five years, the BJP government will throw out all infiltrators from Assam.
The Home Minister’s remarks came while inaugurating the Srimanta Sankardeva Abirbhav Kshetra at the hallowed Batadrava Than in Nagaon district, the birth place of 15th century saint and reformer Srimanta Sankardeva.
Attacking the Congress governments in Assam, Shah said the Congress brought the Illegal (Migrants) Determination By Tribunal (IMDT) Act in 1983 to legally settle the illegal immigrants in Assam to secure their vote bank.
He said it is the BJP government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that resolved to act against the infiltrators in Assam and added that the BJP government in Assam had freed over 1 lakh bighas of land from illegal encroachment in the last five years.
“The BJP government is committed to throwing out all the ghuspethia (infiltrators) not only from Assam but from the entire country,” Shah said adding that the Congress’ vote bank politics to settle the illegal infiltrators in Assam had also posed a threat to the security of the country.
Shah said that while Assam had sent Dr Manmohan Singh to Rajya Sabha from Assam, he visited Assam only for seven times during his tenure as the Prime Minister. “Out of the seven times, he visited Assam, twice only to cast his vote for the Rajya Sabha elections,” Shah added.
The Home Minister also blamed the Congress for the 70 years of deprivation of Assam and northeast and said that the last 11 years of development in Assam carried out under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi will be remembered as ‘Golden era’ of Assam’s development.
Saying that Assam’s development and peace were never in the agenda of Congress, the Home Minister said during the tenure of BJP rule at the Centre and at the state, all the peace accords were signed including the Bodo and Karbi peace Accord, Adivasi Peace accord and Ulfa peace accord.
“During our tenure, we have implemented 92 per cent of these accords on the ground. If we come to power for one more term, we are going to ensure 100 per cent commitment of these accords,” he said.
He further said that it is the BJP government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi who had initiated steps to bring the Vrindavani Vastra, the 16th century textiles designed by Srimanta Sankardeva to Assam for an exhibition.
