Prez Murmu embarks on submarine sortie at Karwar

Karwar, Dec 28 (UNI) President Droupadi Murmu on Sunday embarked on a sortie aboard the Indian Navy’s indigenous Kalvari-class submarine INS Vaghsheer from the Karwar Naval Base in Karnataka, marking a significant milestone in India’s naval history.

According to an official post on the President’s X handle, the President undertook the sortie on the Western Seaboard, accompanied by Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi.

As the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, President Murmu’s presence onboard underscored the nation’s commitment to indigenisation and maritime security.

This maiden submarine sortie by President Murmu is only the second such experience by an Indian President, the first being undertaken by former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.

The submarine sortie forms part of the President’s four-day visit to Goa, Karnataka and Jharkhand.

She departed for Goa on Saturday evening.

On Monday, the President is scheduled to attend the centenary celebrations of Ol Chiki at Jamshedpur in Jharkhand. On the same day, she will also address the 15th convocation ceremony of the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Jamshedpur.

On Tuesday, President Murmu will address the Antarrajyiy Jansanskritik Samagam Samaroh – Kartik Jatra at Gumla in Jharkhand.

Earlier, on Friday, the President presented the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar to 20 children from 18 states and union Territories, recognising their exceptional achievements and contributions across diverse fields such as art, culture, sports and innovation.
