Bhopal: Senior Congress leader, former minister and Madhya Pradesh Congress media in-charge Dr Mukesh Nayak tendered his resignation from Congress party on Saturday morning, party sources confirmed. Dr Nayak personally submitted his resignation to State Congress President Jeetu Patwari at the latter’s residence, triggering widespread discussion within party circles.
According to party insiders, Dr Nayak had hinted at his decision during his address to the meeting of the Pradesh Congress Executive held recently at the party headquarters. In his remarks, he reportedly observed that the time had come for senior leaders to vacate positions to allow younger members to assume greater responsibility, signalling a generational transition within the organisation.
However, sources within the party suggest that there were deeper reasons behind the sudden move. On Thursday, a 13-member committee was constituted on the instructions of State Congress President Jeetu Patwari. The following day, another communication was issued by In-charge General Secretary Abhay Tiwari, stating that the committee had not been authorised and did not possess working powers, particularly with regard to a proposed ‘talent hunt’ exercise. The contradictory communications are said to have caused confusion and unease within the party’s organisational structure.
Sources further indicated that this apparent rift and lack of coordination between senior leaders had begun to affect the morale of the party’s inner circle, even as senior cadres were making efforts to defuse tensions. Organising Secretary Sanjay Kamle reportedly held discussions with Dr Nayak and attempted to persuade him to reconsider his decision, assuring him that matters would be resolved in accordance with party norms.
Despite these efforts, Dr Nayak is understood to have remained firm on his resignation. Attempts by this Correspondent to contact him were unsuccessful, as his mobile phone was found to be switched off.
