Delhi’s AQI in ‘Very Poor’ category days after GRAP‑4 curbs lifted

New Delhi, Dec 27 (UNI) Delhi residents are experiencing ‘very poor’ air quality, with the AQI climbing to 350 on Saturday, raising serious health concerns across the national capital

Anand Vihar, one of Delhi’s most polluted areas, recorded an AQI of 410, while Vivek Vihar slipped to 424, indicating hazardous conditions, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

Other areas that have crossed the 400 mark include Bawana (404), Jahangirpuri (417), Narela (413), and Rohini (409).

According to CPCB’s 7 am release, Delhi’s overall AQI stood at 353, placing the national capital in the ‘very poor’ category.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) reported extremely low visibility, with Safdarjung and Palam recording just 400 meters and 800 meters, respectively, as thick haze and smog engulfed various parts of the city early in the morning.

Meanwhile, the Centre’s panel decided to revoke Stage 4 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) on Wednesday, after air quality temporarily improved from ‘very poor’ to ‘poor.’

The spike in pollution has raised fresh concerns over public health, especially for children, the elderly, and those with pre-existing conditions, who remain most vulnerable.
